April 14, 2012: The first “Rally Round Downtown Gilroy” cash mob and get-to-know-downtown event took place at Garlic City Billards.
On Friday, April 13, we had 20 people signed up. We were happy with the number; it was our first attempt. Then a newspaper article came out. 53 people showed up for an evening of pool and billiards. People came in from Salinas and San Jose. We had the whole gamut, from first timers to bona fide pool sharks. People made new friends and discovered that you can have a lot of fun downtown.
The cash mob event ran from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, but Gilroy has more to offer. At 9:00, some of the crowd headed over to Station 55 to listen to some live rock, performed by the Motovators. We met more new people and heard some great music.
Later yet, a few of us headed over to 9 Lives to check out “The California Blues Machine.” More great music.
Gilroy has a night life! Tell your friends.
