The Restaurant Rally effort got off to a grand start when 10 hungry diners gathered at the Garlic City Cafe on April 18. We spent the next 2 to 3 hours together, feasting, talking, laughing, and having a good time.
While some of the group already knew each other, over half the group were meeting each other for the first time. What better way to become acquainted than to enjoy a good dinner in a relaxed atmosphere?
This was the first time that Evelyn and Ken, Rose and Steve, and Jackie and her Steve had attended a Rally Round Downtown event. Judging by the smiles on their faces, it won’t be the last.
The evening began with a leisurely dinner, with Margarita providing excellent service, keeping the drinks refilled and making sure that things were to our liking.
The conversation ranged over a wide scope of topics, from new homes (2 couples had moved into Gilroy within the past 6 months) to Texas (three of the diners all moved to South County from Texas the same year), to downtown, to travel, to anything else that the group found interesting.
Well fed, most of the group headed over to the Bella Viva Ristorante e Caffe for some after dinner wine. It was a first time visit for several of the diners, and owner Kellen McBain took good care of the Rally gang, making sure everyone felt welcomed and was matched up with their beverage of preference – including a delicious cherry Italian soda for a non-drinker in the group.
Alas, it was a work night, so the evening ended a little after 9:00, long before all topics of conversation were exhausted.
